Where women's stories are not whispered but declared — loud, proud, and permanent.
"The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud." — Coco Chanel
In villages from Gujarat to Guatemala, women are running informal economies that sustain millions — yet remain invisible in national statistics, policy, and praise.
SheRises was born in a small apartment in Nairobi in 2018, from a conversation between three women journalists who were exhausted by the way women's stories were covered — when they were covered at all. Too often, women appeared in the news as victims, as accessories to men's narratives, or as inspirational exceptions who "made it" despite all odds.
We wanted something different. A platform where women were the protagonists of their own stories. Where complexity was welcomed. Where a woman farmer in Bangladesh and a CEO in Berlin could both find themselves reflected in our pages.
Seven years later, SheRises reaches 3.4 million readers monthly across 190 countries. We publish in six languages. We have broken stories that changed policy. We have introduced the world to women who deserved global platforms. And we are just getting started.
We believe that journalism can be feminist without losing its rigor. We believe that storytelling is one of the most powerful tools for social change. We believe that the most marginalized women — those at the intersection of multiple forms of discrimination — deserve the most amplification, not the least.
We believe that women's empowerment is not a "women's issue" — it is the central issue of our time, connected to everything from climate change to economic stability to democratic governance to global health. When women rise, humanity rises.
And we believe that the truth, told beautifully and without flinching, can change the world. That's why we write.
We tell the truth about power, about injustice, and about what real change requires — even when it's uncomfortable.
We center the most marginalized, not the most convenient. Race, class, disability, and sexuality are not footnotes here.
Women's struggles and triumphs are not confined by geography. Neither are we. We report from every continent.
We are not satisfied with creating consciousness. We push for policy, practice, and permanent structural change.
